You’re not fighting. But you’re not really close either.
Conversations have become logistics.
Touch has become careful, or rare.
Neither of you is quite sure how it happened, or how to begin talking about it.
That distance is rarely a lack of love. It lives in the nervous system, deep in the body, the heart, and the unspoken space between two people. That is where this work goes.
“By the time couples reach me, they are often saying the same things.”
“I love them. I’m just not sure I feel close to them anymore.”
“We’ve tried talking about it. Nothing changes.”
“Distance in a couple rarely arrives all at once. It builds in the things that go unsaid.”
Who this is for
Couples in long-term relationships who want to stay together, but not like this.
You’re thoughtful and self-aware. You can see the pattern, but not the way out of it.
Warmth between you has thinned into politeness, and physical intimacy has become something you avoid naming.
Weekly sessions haven’t suited your lives, or haven’t reached the heart of it.
This isn’t the right format where there is violence or coercion, active addiction, or where one partner has already decided to leave. If that’s where you are, I’ll talk with you about what would help instead.
Your 30 days together
A private consultation. A free call of up to 30 minutes to talk about where you are and whether this is the right fit. There is no obligation.
Assessment. A joint session and an individual session with each of you. Together we map what is blocking closeness: in your history, in the pattern between you, and in the body.
Two intensive days. In person at a private studio in central or south London, or online. Each day runs 5–6 hours, with a break. We work with the pattern as it happens between you: what is said, what your bodies do when it is said, and how to settle your nervous systems enough to try something different.
Integration. Three one-hour sessions over the following weeks, to bring what has shifted into ordinary life. The whole programme runs over 30 days.
Follow-up. One review hour three months later, to see what has held and what still needs attention.
About Dr Sabah Khan
Dr Sabah Khan is an HCPC-registered clinical psychologist and a BPC-registered couple psychoanalytic psychotherapist, trained at UCL and Tavistock Relationships. She has worked with couples for more than 15 years, led national training for couple therapists on the NHS Couple Therapy for Depression programme, and has also trained in energy psychotherapy and worked with couples for more than 15 years.
It is an unusual pairing: the rigour of psychoanalytic couple work with focus on unconscious processes, with close attention to the nervous system and what is held in the body. She works with couples who are ready to look at what sits underneath the distance, not only at its surface, to bring about meaningful change.
Questions couples ask
-
Yes. It is couple therapy in a concentrated format, with the same confidentiality and professional standards as weekly work.
-
That’s common. You both need to be willing to come, but not equally certain. The consultation is a good place for the more hesitant partner to ask their questions.
-
Some couples do. We can agree further sessions at my standard fee.
